Bolgheri (Italian: [ˈbolgeri]) is a town in Castagneto Carducci, a municipality in the province of Livorno, Tuscany. First mentioned in 1075, in a papal bull by Pope Gregory VII, its name derives from Bulgari (Italian for "Bulgarians"), due to the presence of a military camp of Bulgarians, allies of the Lombards.
"Liborio" is a proper name, too. It comes from an old Tuscan great-uncle of the present owner of the farm Mr Franco Pravettoni, with whom Franco used to spend his childhood. Thanks to uncle Liborio Franco discovered his own love and passion for Tuscany and the countryside.Only 2,000 Liborio bottles are produced, being Pietranova's crown jewel. Its first vintage was 2013, when Franco decided to create a new label. In 2014, because of a very rainy weather, we decided not to produce "Liborio". So the 2015 is the second vintage. The label carries an Etrurian woman profile. Etrurian population settled here before the Romans and represents native people of that area. They were the first ever to produce wine in Tuscany.Bolgheri Superiore "Liborio" is 100% Merlot, carefully selected by manual harvest. It ages 18 months in French oak barrels of 1st and 2nd fill and then rests in bottle. We strongly trust in bottle ageing to increase elegance and roundness of the wine and smoothness of tannins, most of all for a 100% Merlot wine that has a very powerfull taste. At the nose it emanates scent blackberries, dark cherries and spices. The palate is very elegant, with complex structure and soft tannins. Great ageing potential.(Lucrezia Pistolesi, Azienda vitivinicola Pietranova Bolgheri)
