Deep, magnificent dark garnet colour. Attracive, complex, and very intense nose with catching aromas of sweet vanilla, mint, dried tomato, pepper and ripe wild strawberry.
Mild, velvet palate with a pleasant fruity freshness, which reminds of cherry with cinnamon, pepper and sweet vanilla-strawberry notes in the long aftertaste. Very dense, spectacular wine with exceptional texture and long potential for aging.

Castra Rubra is a Latin name which literally means red fortress. This fortress has been recently discovered by Bulgarian archeologists. Indeed, 15 centuries ago at this place there was a mythical Byzantine fortress with strategic location. For the first time the archeological excavations have proved that the place was inhabited by several different ethnic groups. The fortress was situated on the ancient important trade route Via Diagonalis connecting Europe and the Orient. Even nowadays one can see the traces of the big diagonal road built by the Byzantine people to connect Rome and Constantinople. The excavations proved that Castra Rubra was not only a fortress but there was also a settlement and probably a big facility hosting travelers and caravans.

Construction of Castra Rubra Winery started in 2006. The winery is a real architectural jewel supplied with the latest technologies and equipment meeting all standards for quality and minimal external influence upon grapes and wine. The place has been chosen not only because of the excellent conditions for growing vineyards - suitable sun exposure, soils with good drainage and extremely rich and various composition, but also because the place is full of history.

Castra Rubra wines are not only pride of their makers but they are the new face of the Bulgarian winemaking. The person who creates these wines and guides the team of young oenologists of Castra Rubra Winery is Michel Rolland, the most significant representative of the contemporary wine world. Michel Rolland is not only the exclusive consultant of the winery but he is also the guru of all modern-thinking winemakers. It is honor to have him as a member of winery's team and a privilege for the Bulgarian wine as a whole.
Three young and talented oenologists work constantly at Castra Rubra Winery. Enthusiastic and ambitious, they are the new hope of the Bulgarian wine.
